Eiffel Tower, Paris, August 1945 ...

Didn't an American fly underneath the Eiffel Tower around then?

(I know an American Bonanza did in 1981, stopping briefly at Pontoise afterwards to drop off a French cameraman before heading to Shannon and then back to the US!)

The Wiki article about Overstreet debunks this story, stating that he did not start telling it until late in his life. A Bonanza 'recreated' this in 1984 according to another website. At least we have evidence of this feat:

Wow I counted 75 mission markings on the B-17 "the Eagles Wrath". Assume the kill marking on the P-47 are for the entire Fighter Group.
