WONZ 302 - Featuring The OFMC's Sarah Carr

Fri Mar 08, 2024 4:11 am

WONZ 302 - Wings Over Britain: The OFMC's Sarah Carr is now online. In this episode I sat down with Sarah Carr of the Old Flying Machine Company, in her office at Duxford, Cambridgeshire.

Sarah is the daughter of the legendary pilot, the late Ray Hanna, and sister of the late and equally revered pilot Mark Hanna.

She talks in depth about how Ray and Mark both got into flying, display flying and film work. And she details her own experiences with aviation and with running the OFMC, which today operates only the one aeroplane, Spitfire IX MH434.

Sarah also talks about her connection with New Zealand and how important that is to her.

A title re-write required to avoid the obvious conclusions being drawn?

Yes titles like that only mean one thing now, and I thought the same thing.

I can remember when Mark took Sarah for a blast down the runway in the OFMC F-4 Phantom...... :) that was almost 30 years ago now

Erm, I'm sorry, but I do not think there is anything wrong with the title. Not sure what you guys are on about.

Well if two people think there's an issue, maybe there's an issue; posts with just a name are shorthand for "xxx has passed away". We've discussed this many times before and I think it should be a forum golden rule.

So maybe, "An interview with..."?

All too often thread titles with just somebody's name cover the news that they have died. I always include a hint one way or the other, ie "Interview with So and So" or "RIP So and So".

Great interview by the way! (I guess we'll never know what the Empire of the Sun Aerial Coordinator was really up to when he went to the bottom of the Adriatic!)

Good grief. I had no idea that people here see a name and automatically think the worst. Must be a strange local WIX custom.

I have changed the title. Sarah is alive and well. And the interview with here was a huge pleasure and privilege. I am glad you listened and enjoyed it, Hooligan 2.

It's not just local to WIX Dave. The same applies on Flypast/Key.Aero and Pprune.

And Flyer! Occasionally... :D

Same with threads concerning accidents - "fatal accident at X" is better including a date, so when the thread reopens with an update or whatever, aficionados of that airfield/type/etc don't have a conniption "what, AGAIN?"

It's not just aviation forums. It's every forum I'm on. Racing , keyboards , etc. The person's name as the subject is code word for it's going to be a memorial thread.
