"Darkstar" from Top Gun Maverick on display

Fri Feb 16, 2024 12:54 pm

FLYING magazine just sent me this, the "Darkstar" film prop is on display at the Palm Springs Air museum.
They will have a series of speakers discussing the aircraft and some interactive features.
The Flying article also gives some information on how Lockheed Martin built it.

That would be fun to see. I have one quibble about the article. It states "(Reality check: The closest a piloted aircraft has come to Mach 10 is the SR-71 Blackbird designed by Lockheed’s Kelly Johnson during the Cold War that reached Mach 3.3 or 2,531.988 mph.)". That is true for an air-breathing piloted aircraft, but the X-15 reached Mach 6.7 or 4520 mph.
