Was there another grounding in 1946 timeframe you mention?

I have not seen any mention of one in my Lockheed histories.

All I can say is that between April and July 1946 these aircraft were at Burbank. If there was a backlog, it's possible that it was due to equipment shortages (not uncommon) or even a labour strike (also not uncommon). Another possibility is that receiving units were not ready to accept, or even that there were not enough ATSC/Ferry Command pilots available to actually deliver them.

It would be nice to know exactly why, but there are similar 'backlog' shots of T-33s at Burbank, and also F-94Bs. So maybe it's just normal for Lockheed?

Yes it is, funnily enough there's a thread on the Key forum about 'his' Spitfire

Noticed that this image was backwards, so I reversed it.

I have to image a good number of these L-4s must still be around. Of the numbers I can see

236581
215190
238524
236683

Also, anyone else notice the L-4 with the yellow Piper Cub lighting bolt?? I've never seen that before! Now I wonder how long it will be until someone replicates it!

The quality of these images is outstanding! Loving them! I was wondering about the P-43 posted earlier, couldn't identify it at first but someone else answered my question before I had a chance to type it.

Call me clueless, but I've never noticed the vents in the wingtips before. Those don't seem to be a common feature.
