Also, although its not strictly an aviation museum, the Museum of Missouri Military History did produce a layout for the aircraft in the parking lot in front of their building:

The Yorkshire Air Museum, which was mentioned in a previous post, has updated their layout map to an overhead format:

Lastly, the Air Mobility Command Museum went a slightly different route, with an annotated aerial image:

Re: Aviation Museum Layout Maps

I tried editing OpenStreetMap the other day for the first time. I since went through and added or edited a bunch of aviation museums. This got me thinking: could I use the results to create layout maps? The one for Planes of Fame always confused me because the buildings were out of proportion, not accurately shaped and had incorrect relations to each other, so it made it somewhat difficult to determine exactly what and where each one was. I exported the relevant OSM data as an SVG file and edited it in Inkscape. I wanted make it resemble the original in most possible ways aside from what needed to be fixed. For comparison, the original:

and the recreation:

I think it came out pretty well!

EDIT (24-05-25): Updated the design of the map to resemble the original a slight bit more.
EDIT (24-05-26): One additional minor change to the map.

I also measured and made a map of the Tri-State Warbird Museum:

I then added some of the aircraft 3-views to make a "ouija board" version with properly scaled aircraft that could be used to determine where each one could be positioned:

(Note, this is not an actual layout, just a template. Also the TBM has been included once each with wings extended and retracted and the Corsair divided into section to represent it configuration under restoration.)

However, the museum's brochure, which can be found in PDF format on their website, has been revised as additional hangars have been built since the one above was created. Extracted versions are below:

It is worth noting that maps of Wendover Air Force Base made for the Historic American Building Survey are available from the Library of Congress website and that these identify many of the buildings that are now part of the museum. An Flickr album of a tour byKelly Michals also includes pictures of the historic markers with reproductions of an old map that have mounted around the base.

EDIT (24-05-29): The Aviation Museum Layout Maps page on Warbird Philosophy has been updated with all of the posts made in this thread up to this point.
