Here's my efforts, such as they are:
Great chronicle of your first (and last) Reno experience! I remember walking around in awe my first time as well. I agree that one of the best parts (after the races) was the accessibility of really famous people - this is my wife's hat:

I understand completely why you passed on section 3 in favor of a pylon spot - that's something I never was able to do. I did watch from outside the perimeter fence along the valley of speed one year. That was the 2011 Unlimited Gold race - never went back. I will miss the camaraderie of that group - all the fierce loyalties of NASCAR, but anyone passing anyone at the finish pylon got a huge cheer. Pretty Polly's pass on Sunday may have been the loudest in years! All of the noise went to a silent prayer in unison, however, after any incident on the field. I'll also miss the opportunity to tend that huge flag. When they first unfurl it it's at shoulder height, but it drops to waist height for the anthem. Those of us underneath it had to take a knee, but it was for a good cause!

Finally, it's too bad that the three-way battle we were hoping for in the Gold race never materialized. There is nothing like the sound of the fastest piston engines in close formation. I have a cell phone video from 2013, but can't figure out how to post it.
I do hope that they try it again somewhere in the future.
