Sanford FL Air Show

Held at the Sanford Orlando Airport Oct. 28 and 29.
The Air Show didn't have a lot of Warbirds this year but the weather
was perfect, blue sky, sunny and 84 degrees.
Parking was free and general admission was $40.
After reading about the show in Indianna, no complaints here.

The TBirds had a near collision Saturday during the high low hit maneuver when the Diamond formation got hit with wake turbulence from the solo.

Okay, uneducated question time....What made this one different than all the other times they've done this maneuver?

Pilots too relaxed? Weather? Solo too fast? Is turbulence more severely felt when you are at a slower speed?

I know anything said is conjecture at this point, but it seems they train/practice these maneuvera over and over and they would be prepared for this. Not looking for a definitive answer just some understanding on this.

I've ridden back seat in the F-15 and have experienced turbulence while they were formation flying, and felt the turbulence when in a MC-130E when it was taking gas from a tanker. So I'm not completely dumb on it, but it doesn't make me an expert either.

Well that explains the formation pass I saw Sunday from my back yard.

The T-bird upset looks worse because of the angle, there was more longitudinal and altitude separation than visible from the oblique rear angle, but it was still too close for comfort. I suspect the solo crosses behind the four-ship, there may have been some wind towards the crowd, or the separation was less than planned. It will all be investigated.
