Sadly could not see the storage section....they have over 50+ interesting airframes on the premises but they only give tours during the summer.

Interesting.......first private RATO assisted DC-3 I ever saw! Was more than needed to get out of the short improvised forest airstrips.

There is an identically painted Puss Moth based out of Felts Field, Spokane.
It's a former Canadian aircraft and has been in the U.S. since the 50s-60s.

It's new owner is English and he's been basing it here for several years, ultimately, he plans to take it back to the UK.

I was told the same at the museum. They ran the engine twice.

The collector who's given a lot of his collection to the museum only paid it 50$!

BTW....anyone knows what the small slots are for on the green Stinson?

They are all over the plane wings, tail, control surfaces.... rudder, elevators?

Condensation drains?

The DC-3 was operated by the provincial government of Alberta for many years. I believe it was eventually replaced by a dash 8.

Awesome looking museum! Thanks for the photos. It sounds like they have a lot of other interesting aircraft in storage. I think I remember a TBM from this museum being in an old Air Classics or Warbirds International.

My Dad and I used to talk about taking a road trip or two to hit a lot of the major aviation museums in Canada and we haven't done it yet. Your recent posts are starting to get my wheels turning on how to make it happen.

1) Alberta Aviation Museum (Edmonton)
2) Reynolds Museum (Wetaskiwin)
3) The Hangar Flight Museum (Calgary)
4) The Military Museums (Calgary)
5) The Bomber Command Museum (Nanton)

Yes Michel.
Those are drains. That style is known as a seaplane drain.
Reynolds typically restores their aircraft to an airworthy standard but they don't fly them.

Another Alberta museum to check out is the Naval museum in Calgary.
They have several aircraft worth checking out.

The Naval Museum in Calgary is part of the Military Museums Annex I mentioned above. It also includes galleries for the Air Force and Cold war era.

I visited all the museums you mentioned and will post pics eventually.

The only Seafire in Canada.

If you really want to explore Alberta's aviation history, there are plenty of BCATP airfields that still exist here. Vulcan and Claresholm feature prominently in that regard. Vulcan, in particular, has many of those wartime hangars still standing, through many now in a sad state of disrepair. Claresholm also has hangars standing, to a lesser amount, with a Harvard mounted on a pylon in the town. The memorial in honor of the local contribution to the war effort. Readers might be surprised to know that many of those BCATP triangular shaped airfields, so easily recognizable from the air, still dot the landscape in Western Canada.

Isn't there a museum that is deducated, or heavily features, the BCATP?
Luckiky, there are some training g aircraft that are well represented in collections, but some that aren't. I would love to see more Cessna Cranes and Fairchild Cornell....and of course Yales.
