TIGHAR has for a long time been dead-and-buried to those of us who think critically. These two links essentially take every piece of physical evidence that Gillespie has been waving for a quarter-century and buries it as deep as the aircraft lies on the Pacific bottom.

The lesson here needs to be applied to those who bandy about claims of Bigfoot or QAnon. There are people who make lots of money by presenting wild stories to the gullible.

I think it died from lack of traffic, the last I saw it had two people using it and that was a long time ago.

Long story about that site.
Towards the end it was pretty weird.

It started off as a place for skeptics to discuss the group. Later, if you said anything too critical...not lawsuit fodder, just critical... the operator/moderator would call you and ask you to modify your posted opinion.
Finally, I (and seemingly a lot of other folks), just quit.

Also, another poster pretty much monopolized it with his theories.
He posted a lot of photos of undersea coral with drawings of Lockheed parts superimposed and seemed to say that were in fact encrusted aircraft parts.
At first, I thought he was being sarcastic, poking fun at the group's claim that everything found in the island...A piece of metal, part of a shoe, were linked to AE.
I thought the guy had a good sense of humor.
But it turned out he was apparently serious, he apparently did "see" parts hidden in coral formations.
Got too weird for me.

Sadly it seems a personality trait these days: based on the fact that it's easier to prove something than to disprove it. So you can come up with any type of daft hypothesis (hidden Nazi treasure train hidden in a tunnel for example), simply because so long as you are vague enough, it's nigh-on impossible to come up with evidence to the contrary. That's because evidence that things DIDN'T happen doesn't exist of course.

But it won't stop people doing it. Why? I have no idea*, but it's a shame because it wastes resources that would be better put towards researching interesting stuff that does exist!

*On second thoughts, I know why some people do it: "Pledge money so I can go on vacation to the South Pacific" is one example.

Regarding the guy seeing things in rocks, I asked once how he knew or could prove the dimensions of the objects in question since there was no measuring apparatus or anything to scale off.

Silence, just ignored the question and went on posting more rock pictures.

On a side note it doesn't appear they were able to raise enough money for a trip to Newfoundland to solve the newest oldest greatest mystery in aviation.

Considering the missing biplane in Newfoundland was wood and fabric (I don't know if it had a steel tube fuselage) and the only remains piece would be the engine, how are they going to find that?
A fleet of P-3s with MAD gear likely couldn't find it.

Not to mention they don't know where to look. The Atlantic, Newfoundland, Maine?

Well if you watch the youtube video they make it sound a lot more exciting than that. And stay till the end when someone says the mystery can be solved if they can raise enough money.

My disdain, opinions and comments regarding the group (and those silly enough to donate and believe their nonsense) is tempered only by the threat of them turning my retirement account into their retirement account via a lawsuit.

They are, in my opinion, a prime example example the ethically challenged taking advantage of the intellectually challenged...those who don't use critical thinking skills, apply the most basic of scientific theory and have a propensity to swallow arguments whole.
