Maybe it was od/gray and they stripped it off to bare metal.

If I was in charge I'd have had at least one of each type at my disposal, depending on my mood that particalur day. Fighters and Bombers. Transports too.

I recently read Doolittle's autobiography. Doolittle liked to fly a variety of different types of aircraft. He often flew on bombing missions as a pilot. The book was a good read.
