I am reading, in one of my "Wings of Fame" volumes, about "early prone pilot tests in the wingtip of a B-17."
I am aware of early prone-pilot testing in the Lockheed P-80 and the Gloster Meteor, but I have never heard of anything involving a guinea pig pilot apparently lying in the wingtip of a B-17, not can I find anything on the Internuts.
Anybody else ever heard of this?

But now that I look at it more carefully, it certainly doesn't look like a prone-pilot cockpit...
