WW2John provided the following pictures of T Square 54 undergoing restoration at the Museum of Flight. It is in the same hangar as the B-17 Boeing Bee..... :D

Looks a bit different than 10-12 years ago when she was here in Denver at the Lowry museum before she got taken away from us and moved up to the Northwest.....she woulda looked GREAT in the 'Wings over the Rockies' museum now at Lowry, and they've sure got the room for her....

I was part of a crew that recently had the honor of polishing the aluminum skins of T Square 54. She was in an old hanger when we worked on her. Word has it that she is going back outside as the hanger is getting torn down. Funds are being raised to pay for a hanger or at least a roof to be put over the B-29.

WOW! :D Looks fantastic! Can't beat a polished up Natural Metal Finish! I wish they were doing the same with the SAC Museum B-29 instead of painting it grey/silver...

My father was flight engineer for this air craft. His name is Edward Jewett and is in the crew picture that is always posted on line. He died in 1984 and was not able to join the living crew members for the dedication. He would have been so proud. Thanks for all the awesome pictures!

Its not Natural Metal if its Polished.
IMHO Polished and outside do not mix for old A/C.
I can go into Alclad and the makeup of Alum and its different alloys but basically the protection of the Alclad gets ground off to make the Alum shine. The High Strength Alloy under the Alclad will break down under exposure to the environment much faster when exposed.
Should shrink wrap it if you put it outside until you can get it back inside.

Yep, it looks like a Superfort-shaped marshmallow, sitting off to the side of the entrance of the MoF.
Now that the Shuttle trainer stuff is mostly squared away, I sincerely hope eventually they'll be looking to build at least a cover over this and the B-17 which is sitting out in the open.
