Unofficial Oshkosh 2021 Thread

Thu Jan 07, 2021 1:13 am

As posted elsewhere, B-29 "Doc" is presently scheduled to attend.

B-29 "Fifi" and B-24 "Diamond Lil" are scheduled to depart Janesville on July 25 and arrive in Rochester, MN, on the 28th, which suggests at least a few days either on the ground at (or flying rides over) KOSH from the 25th - 28th.

B-25 "Devil Dog" is scheduled.

Kermit Weeks has repeatedly indicated that the A-26 will attend.

I could speculate on more but better give the rest of you a chance for input.

The CAF P-51C also has Oshkosh on its schedule. It has also been announced that warbirds will be featured prominently in the airshows, Friday and Saturday in particular:

My number one hope for Oshkosh 2021 is that it takes place. Some of my hopefuls for new restoration debuts if that is the case:

Fagen Fighters Hellcat (and possibly A6M3?)
Warbird Heritage Foundation FG-1D Corsair
Dakota Territory Air Museum P-51D, F8F, Hurricane or P-47
Classic Fighters of America F-86F "Beauteous Butch"
Vintage Wings Inc. C-53 "Beach City Baby"
CAF Sierra Hotel A-26
Canadian Warplane Heritage TBM
Tri-State Warbird Museum FlugWerk Fw 190F-8

Last summer wasn't the same without my typical 3-4 days at Oshkosh. I really hope we all get to back this year.

Seeing this is January and Airventure is in July?.
And COVID requires two shots?. Of which getting the first one seems unlikely anytime soon.
And infections and deaths out of control in most States.
And the only real way to control the spread of COVID is to use some common sense, follow some simple suggestions and be respectful of others?.

Hmmm!! Maybe it will happen. (Glass half full)

Seems to jive with my personal philosophy: hope for the best to happen but don't expect it to, because why would it?

Maybe the answer is to downscope the event a bit, more like it was in the late '70s? Make it a "fly-in" again? Most everything is outdoors except for the vendor buildings and the shuttle buses.

Yes, common sense and personal responsibility go a long way.

EAA CEO Jack Pelton mentioned in an interview I saw that Oshkosh being "just" a fly-in again this year may be a possibility. EAA seems really committed to doing something, even if that something isn't necessarily the event we're used to.

Agreed!! Yet I wouldn't want to be the one from EAA telling several thousands of aviation folks that they can't come due to downsizing the event. Some of the College Football games being attended by smaller amounts of fans has me wondering who actually gets to attend and who doesn't. How's that been figured out?

I would not be surprised if it is not cancelled again.
I am sorry, but I do not believe what I hear about the virus, why are they destroying the economy for something that if you catch it, you stand a 98% chance of surviving. 2 friends have caught it, both were over it in a week, and both wore masks all the time.

Ugh!! well you’re entitled to believe what you want, but 98% of anything involving COVID is wrong!!!, but even a small amount of “fact based” googling can direct you to the real facts about COVID, why the economy has been frozen, etc.

It’s tiring trying to explain the logic of why we are where we are regarding this pandemic to those who don’t buy into it. Nothing personal. Just tragic.

2021 Airventure is the topic of this thread and all things “airplanes” is the main conversation, but COVID is a very real part of the conversation if you want to be serious about the conversation. Just my 2 cents.

My doctor told me yesterday that even though I have asthma , my age won’t get shots for at least two months. It’s going to be a while t
Before our country is on sound footing .

BINGO!

I guess I had it coming, since I did invite "input".

But as the originator of this thread, I kindly request that future posts contain information concerning aircraft scheduled to attend Oshkosh this coming July.

I also invite those who wish to express opinions, fears, and speculation about COVID-19 to do so by initiating a separate thread on the topic.

Please accept my personal thanks for considering these requests. -Dan

I've been meaning to go for years but the crowds have put me off...I don't like the idea of getting a hotel room in Chicago or Indianapolis. (Sarcasm alert...I know you done have to stay that far away....just Milwaukee.

So if the crowds are down this year, it might be a good time to attend.

And feel free to accept my personal “no problem” and my personal “all the best of luck with the event being a go this Summer.” And my personal “be safe”.
