April 5, 1944: Graveyard of the 15th Air Force. "The target the day we went down, Ploesti, Rumania, Direct hit at 22,000 ft between the 1st and 2nd engines, one engine gone, one going, controls full right--62" Hg and 145 mph--then 5 M.E. 109s. So long, fellows!"
