England, April 1945 - When "Little Miss Mischief belly landed at her home base after a mission over Germany, she jamed her chin turrets, ripped her aluminium skin and wrapped her props - the latter was cause by coming in with power on. Jacked up by inflating great rubber bladders inserted under the wing panels the aircraft has been let down on a pair of caterpillar treads - pieces of reverse lend lease - all useable equipment is being salbages including the bullet-proof windshields in pilots cockpit. 91st Bomb Group.

B-17 Flying Fortress at Thurleigh airfield is under what is called a Turret crane - used to install the upper turrets.

Paul Bunyon is a Navy Tilly crane

Tks Mark.

Anyone noticed the strange square boxy tires on the P-39?

Thanks for sharing these photos on a scarce and elusive subject! The letourneau crane photo is fantastic! Where did you find it?
