After the other thread with the Diemert stuff came up the other day I thought to Google Bob Diemert's name. These articles are from 2015 but it at least at that time he was still at it. And yes, that's the same sidekick of Defender fame!

I think Chris Ball passed away earlier this winter, and maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Hurricane went to England in the back of an air force Herc.

Sorry to hear about Chris.

If nothing else you have to admire Bob's persistence and passion. Watching the video on that news page, he's still exactly the same guy from the Defender documentary.

For Air Classics readers, there is an article entitled 'One Man's Air Force' - From Vintage Vals To Classic Hurricanes, Canada's Bob Diemert Is The Frank Buck Of Warplane Restoration. This is from the July 1971 Vol. 7 No. 5 issue...

It's definitely right up there with, "I can afford to do really stupid things like putting all my money into warbirds". :D

Not too long ago someone thought of creating a WIX "Who's Who in Warbirds". I believe Chris Ball has more than earned a place of honor in the halls of that hallowed temple. The man drove the chase car for THE DEFENDER for Pete's sake...that in itself should warrant inclusion. :drink3:
