Below a VMF-212 Vought F4U-4B Corsair in Korea with a full load of (what I believe are) Incendiary bombs.

I can barely make out the BuNo. which I believe may be 97461 (VMA-212) hit by AAA and ditched 4.5 mi from Cho-do Jun 21, 1952. Pilot rescued.

Thanks Mark. Any idea why they would rope off the "well done" Corsair instead of pushing it overboard?

I was thinking the exact same thing, Pat.

Waiting for the next shipment of rubbing compound because the Chief said it ought to buff right out?

I will bet the plane was broken down for parts as they may have been in short supply. But who knows, that’s a guess.

Perhaps also an investigation as to why it happened?

I'd bet it was a recent mishap so roped off and waiting for inspection.

That would be considered a restorable project today, with an asking price well into six figures, if not seven.

Appears to have been in an event with the engine running - curled prop blade. Maybe gear up landing. After the fire burned out it was lifted, gear extended, and towed to spot to be cannibalized.
