Yes, a beautiful story.
And about aircraft and pilots.

Can't agree more. A beautiful story - well told and well researched.
My only criticism? - much too short. After you finish reading it you are left with the feeling of wanting more. A real shame it didn't go on for a few more chapters.
Happy New Year to all WIXers.

This is a great story - it would make an excellent short film as long as it was done properly.

I have read a that it was written as a Christmas present for his wife.
In doing so, he gave all of us a wonderful holiday gift.
Now if I could only get my wife to believe my articles on classic cars are her Christmas present, I could get out of paying $100 for an ounce (actually .7 ounce) of her Chanel perfume.
Happy Holidays

I remember first stumbling across the book when I was in elementary school in the mid 70s. I really enjoyed it. I knew what a Mosquito was, but had never heard of a Vampire. The edition I read also had some beautiful pencil-drawing illustrations. I'm gonna have to get a copy one of these days.

The problem with groundbreaking stories is too many derivative stories of the same type came afterward, so people wouldn't be impressed with any film version today.
Sort of like all the 'Scrooge' stories today, people are of a 'been there-done that' mindset and have seen the overall concept countless time before...
