RNZAF Corsairs ...

Not quite sure what "Rotten Row 2" means, but I could take a guess.

Total waste of tax payer money. Scrap was dirt cheap then, selling for scrap price plus $50. they'd be making more $$ and
scrap dealers would shy away.

Taking a close look at the Corsairs (bottom row in particular) I can see the RNZAF insignia...sometimes repeated on the right wing. The RNZAF received 424 A/C during the war. Actually many of the US aircraft sent to NZ sat out in the pastures until as late as 1964 ALL of which had their cockpits open to the elements (P-40's, Hudson's, Ventura's et.al.) Must have been a requirement in the disposition of lend-lease A/C. Sad indeed.

Lest we all forget what happened to those brand-new P-38s at Clark Field. Whatever is left of them is buried under several feet of volcanic ash from Mt. Pinatubo. (Unless the scrappers got to it in the 50s.) It would be worth digging just for a few data plates and castings. With 3D CAD technology and machining tools today it's going to get easier to pop out new parts fairly quickly for data plate rebuilds.

This next series of photos is somewhat a mystery to me as far as the beach location. I believe it's still the Philippines though.

Note the number of lined up fighter aircraft that have their canopies slid back and open to the elements...in particular the field of factory fresh P-47's at Clark.

Bottom Line: It cost more to bring them back than what they were worth.
