Evening all. In need of some of your collective expertise.... recently acquired this. It was advertised as a B-26 'Inner Bomb Bay Door'. That made sense given the layout of a B-26, but I'm concerned that the parts number(s) on the 'hinges' seem to stem from the range associated with the A-26. I've also been informed by a knowledgeable person that the stamped 'D' is for Douglas... which would also suggest A-26. Can anybody positively ID this part for me?

That’s a cowling support that goes on the Douglas A-26. Those brackets attach to the engine it has nothing to do with the bomb bay. That said, remember, the A-26 was redesignated B-26 after the Army-Air Force divorce in 1947. The Martin B-26 had been retired so nobody thought it would create any problems. Right!

Cheers chap. much appreciated. I found the 'hinge' part number in the A-26 parts manual I had and wasn't sure if it was a more generic part used in more than one aircraft. Excellent, I now have it ID'd! :-) Came from North France BTW...picked up by a local gentleman immediately after the war... not sure what he thought he'd do with it?! :-)
Happy chappie now...

being cheeky... you haven't got a photo of one in situ have you?

Look back at some of our pics on our FB page. No login required to view our pictures. You will probably find some shots with the cowlings off and the supports still on.
