Re: US Navy Aircraft History Card Requests

I just finished my first round of history card research. As you can see, I only have a partial history for a number of these, and I'll need to order the missing microfilm reels to fill in the blanks, which I hope to do sometime this year.

BennoT6 and Mark Allen M, I will head back to the library in the days to come and try to grab the cards for your latest requests ASAP.

Below are the cards that I had for the earlier requests. I will circle back around shortly and help to decipher some of this information for you guys, if need be:

JRB-2, BuNo.4725 for K5DH (*1941 - July 1946 only)

F4U-1, BuNo.17735

TBM-3E, BuNo.85597 for Barrie MacLeod (*1950 - until 'Stricken')

TBM-3E, BuNo.85665 for Barrie MacLeod (*1950 - until 'Stricken')

TBM-3E, BuNo.85828 for Todd Hackbarth (*1950 - until 'Stricken')

TBM-3E, BuNo.91436 for Todd Hackbarth (*1945 - August 1948 only)...sorry about the crappy focus on the image.

Rob thank you kindly, that is really fascinating stuff indeed. And a current flyer to boot. Wish the ole guy was still around as he would have really enjoyed the recent findings lately. Dad would have loved to participate on this website with some of you guys. Just a bit too late.

Thank you again Rob for taking the time to look a few things up for us. Very generous of you and much appreciated. You certainly have done some serious research and have quite a fascinating library. Great to see folks doing such fine work as it's very valuable as can be seen.

Happy New Year to you have yours.

Mark

Rob,

Thank you very much for the Aircraft History Cards of TBM-3Es 85828 and 91436! I truly appreciate your efforts!!!

Am I correct in assuming that the "crappy focus" of the card for 91436 is because the image on the microfilm is blurry?

I have not personally worked with microfilm in over ten years. Does the equipment at your library allow you to copy the film directly to a pdf, or do you have to print and then scan each page?

Once again, THANKS!!!

Todd

I didn't see this thread when you first posted it. Rob, if it's not too much trouble I'd love to have 12260. Don't make a special trip or anything but if you're already digging sometime I'd appreciate it. No hurry.

Anyone have an original or good quality copy of an aircraft history card they can post? Specifically, where the stamp and the text in the very bottom right is legible.

Also, here's a few more examples, unfortunately none of them high enough quality, I have found online:

And while we are at it, does anyone have a listing of Navy “Strike Codes” in order to decipher some of these stricken aircraft causes?

First question: any good?

Strike codes to follow.

Strike Codes:

The Code is made up of four numbers/letters, arranged CATEGORY - EMPLOYMENT - CAUSE - DISPOSITION, in that order.
