This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Did any P-43s survive?

Short answer.... no, sadly.

Some chewed-up chunks in Florida. Not enough there to restore though.

I thought there was a P-43 at the U.S. Air Force Museum?
Edit: My bad, it is a P-35A.

Not suprised with such a low production. It's a neat looking aircraft.

WIX member "B29Gunner" posted about a year ago (May 18, 2005) saying: "You guys are right, there certainly are a number of birds out in the abyss we simply don’t know about. A friend of mine actually has one of these birds disassembled, safely tucked away. It’s something that no one here knows about! I wish I could tell you guys about it, but I gave my word that I would keep it quiet. But let me just say that one of these days when this thing finally goes public, you guys will LITERALLY $@&# a brick when you see this thing. There is really nothing else like it out there! "
Maybe it is a P-43!
A P-37, P-48, P-66, Airacuda, or some such (I'll take a Re. 2005) would be acceptable also...we're not picky. And then there's the Bishop Brother's barns that RER has told us about, and who knows what else. A P-43 has got to turn up some day.

You mentioned some "hulks" in Florida. Do you have a name or a location of who is in possession of the P-43 remains? I am interested for some research about Seversky and Republic that I am doing. Anything (email, phone number, ect) would be very helpful!!!

Maybe it's a P-40F-5

China where the Lancer had its' combat experience is an awfully big place. No telling what might show up there.

Earl Reinert almost saved one, but the scrappers beat him to it

- he managed to rescue some small pieces and the main gear (one with a YP-43 data plate!) with wheels and tires. There was another that was raised off the Florida coast several years ago; is that the chunks referred to above?
