Halifax to be rescued/recovered

Not sure if this has already been posted, but ran across this article today.

Rare Bird, glad that another example will be brought back.

I suspect the $120,000 rescue might have been a typo??? I could easily see north of 1.2M, but $120K seems cheap !

As I read the article, the crew bailed out and the aircraft flew into the sea...presumably an uncontrolled impact.

Considering those facts, how much is left of the airframe?

I imagine its going to be mostly a data-plate rescue.

Seems like a lot of work for seemingly small and unusable bits.
Surely, there are other parts from other crash sites.

Unless well protected by shifting sand, any piece from anywhere else would likely be in better shape.

Hyperbole is rarely a useful tool, but the phrase, "...the greatest airplane in all 110 years of flight in Canada" isn't going to help galvanise support.

This project has been going on for a decade or more. Didn't they obtain a set of Hercules engines (ex-Hastings?) for it a few years back?

Yup, page 5 of this report outlines it.

Is it going to restored to flight or static?

Runable-taxiable status. The Museum is currently fundraising to build a new hangar and apron so will have some room to run the aircraft.

Would be nice to see the The Nanton Lancaster Society move outside of the downtown area, start an airfield, and slowly work on getting some of there fleet airworthy like the Just Jane group.
