I believe the YR-4 at the NASM was a cutaway.

Neat subject, thanks for posting! I have seen a few of these in person and spent a long time looking at the PBY especially. The F-1 with the Lucite bits sure is an interesting way to do it.

There are a number of cutaways on display in China as well. Most with simple skin removal.

Not a cutaway in that sense, but the same result

Somebody please tell the Chinese how to paint a correct "star and bar"!
(Then again, I've seen U.S.-based aircraft...most recently a homebuilt with faux warbird scheme...almost as bad).

Another fantastic photo subject set, thanks again Mark!! :supz:
A couple of thoughts:
It is interesting how much the fuselages have filled up in the progression of designs. One can see through a WWI and some WWII aircraft but by the time of the F-86 it is just packed.
Knowing that the riveted skin is part of the strength of the structure, I wonder how much sag or droop there is when an entire side of a fuselage is gone while sitting on the gear as the Mauler is.
