Warbirds Downunder 2018

I've 'jumped over the Tasman' to attend Warbirds Downunder 2018. That's at Temora, a 3 hour drive from Canberra

Nice shots, Errol. I made it over as well. You must have been on the north end - I was south. How did you like that 6-ship, all V-12 tail chase?

Uummm, Garbs I don't think "may add some" will quite make the grade. Perhaps "will add some" is what you meant to say

I hope I have decent shots of the tail chase, but it sure was good!
I was mainly on the ground between the silver stands on Friday (3 steps from scaffolding to lean on in the shade!), and the north end of the southern Silver stand on Saturday.

OK - finally back home and able to upload some photos. Got a chance for a quick "Dawn Patrol" the first morning - here's the main players and commentary from the airshow program and the announcer:

Tiger Moth and Ryan ST-M. The Tiger was built in 1936 and served at Temora training pilots during WWII.



Ryan PT-22:



CAC Wirraway, which is aboriginal for "Challenge":





NZAI CT-4 Airtrainer. Built in New Zealand, the program calls them "Plastic Parrots":



CAC Winjeel, Aboriginal for "Young Eagle":





Cessna O-1 Bird Dogs:



Lockheed Hudson - the only real Hudson currently flying anywhere in the world:





CAC Boomerang - Designed around the engine and cowl from the C-47 - sounds a bit like a single engine C-47 but the announcer claimed the Aussie pilots call C-47's a "twin engined Boomerang":



Yak-3UR "Steadfast" - I had no idea she wound up down under after retiring from Reno. Flew a nice acro show each day with Sanders-Type smokewinders on the wingtips:



Hawker Hurricane:



Spitfire Mk VIII - basically a MK IX with a retractable tailwheel:



Spitfire Mk XVI - first model to be built with a Packard-built Merlin:



CAC Mustang, flown by Matt Hall - former F/A-18 driver and the Red Bull Race Pilot who skipped off the water at a Windsor qualifying race in 2010:



NAA P-51 - didn't get the S/N but it has "Flying Undertaker" nose art on the port side:

and a Gloster F-8 Meteor - the only flying fighter version in the world:

That is a real impressive line up of interesting warbirds with several unique ones as well.
