Very nice, Zane. Did you get to “Pirates’ Cove” then?

Pirates Cove... that's a happening place! We just sat back and basked in the glow of the Disco ball and the odor of tequila and barley. :)

Great photos everyone. I don't think I have seen any photos of Kermit's Snipe or any of the World War I planes in the air at OSH. None of them flew the day I was there, but they weren't scheduled to. What ended up being the extent of the WWI flying this year?

Kermit was scheduled to fly the Snipe Monday evening around 8. Not sure if that happened, as I was gone by then.

Via Kermit Weeks' Facebook page, on the first day of the show (Monday), after fueling the Snipe they found a fuel leak and therefore were not going to be able to fly it that day. Then, having fully realized the lack of daylight for the 8-8:20pm time-slot he had been scheduled to be flying it, combined with the nature of the improvised runway setup, Weeks decided to not fly the aircraft the rest of the week either. To add injury to insult, on the last day of the show a person driving a vehicle towing the Snipe wasn't being cautious enough and the tailskid ended up jumping the dolly and resulted in the bottom of the Snipe's rudder getting smashed. As a result, Weeks mentioned in his Facebook posting that he was also pulling out of bringing his aircraft to Dayton for the USAF event, nor will he be bringing his aircraft out and about any longer - just keeping them at Fantasy of Flight.

Ouch, I hate to hear that. I know for fact how devilishly easy it is to get in trouble moving such a plane as that on a dolly.

That is too bad, and Kermit's feelings are totally understandable. He put a lot of time, effort and money into getting those planes there and at least trying to fly some of them.

I haven't seen pics of the other WWI types flying either, not even the EAA's Standard or that Camel replica with the fat wings and the Rotax(?).

It was nice seeing those WWI types outside on the ground, but I guess you'd have to give the WWI theme a grade of EPIC FAIL for execution.

I guess we never will see WWI done right at OSH again. It has just become too big to give those planes the pampering they need.
