"The Brookshire International Air and Spaceport," is a very small, grassy and privately owned airstrip. A few warbirds call it home, and I visit often, to swap lies with fellow-minded aviation dudes.
This last Sunday, around 1600 we were as usual, messing with no one, talking about a myriad things, when all of a sudden, an engine roar caught my attention.
Too fast for these aged eyes to look for any specific markings, all I could think was: Is it a P-51 Mustang?
By the time I reacted and tried to take a better look, the now confirmed P-51 was heading SW, at a high rate of speed.
Being the fool that I am, I walked from the hangar to the runway, camera in hand, awaiting for a second pass, but it was not to be.
So, to the Houston-area WIX warbird community, I ask:
Whose 'Stang? Where is it based? I would like to go and drool behind the fence, and take as many pictures as I can, of this, my favorite of all prop-driven airplanes.
I have a little additional information:
It had a dark red nose (but not like the CAF's Red Nose); that is all that I could see!
I was told by a neighbor, that the P-51 is newly arrived in the area, but he did not know where it was based.
Someone else stated that he had seen the Mustang making passes over Covey Trails a half an hour earlier.
Even someone else yet, stated that the owner also has a Stearman and a T-6
FOR THE OWNER / PILOT of this airplane:
Don't you tease the groundpounders with just ONE pass!
I know, gasoline is expensive, and I understand...but, a lot of idiots such as yours truly, were left standing, waiting for the second pass that never came.
By the way, if you happen to need to put your airplane in a concrete ramp, I have the largest ramp in the Brookshire Spaceport
Ye'r welcome to stop any time.
Saludos,
Tulio - drooling
