Oshkosh? Yawn... I prefer a less humid climate. And fewer mosquitos (of the Culicidae family).

Yawn away, my good man; just remember:

To the fine ladies of the upper midwest, size matters!

Yeah, I figure that, plus I'm speculating Lil's tour will likely be scrubbed as my sense is the economics don't work well for just one plane, so that leaves the Lanc and "up to" five B-17s -- which could mean 3 or 4 -- a nice lineup but not unprecedented even for OSH, let alone some of the big bomber gatherings of the 90s.

No complaints, mind you -- I'd still prefer a trip to OSH over any three other airshows combined.

I guess I'm a bit nuts, because I prefer to go to Oshkosh AND three other airshows! Why go to just one when you can go to them all? In fact, as soon as AirVenture is done I'm packing my bags and heading over to Thunder Over Michigan, where I'll actually get to sit and relax and watch the airplanes!

Of course, I'll probably change my tune after having to pay for all the gas to get me to and from all the various air shows I intend to see this summer...

Although, I should add, my speculation about Lil may be wrong. MAAM just updated their roster today noting the cancellation of Fifi, but Lil is still on there. That would sure be nice.

I'm sure you are a bit nuts, but I'm with you all the way. 8) Only meant to say that OSH blows the rest away for the number of birds and the amount of quality time you get to spend with them. Thunder has really cashed in on the ease of packing up your warbird and scooting over there after OSH, and I hope they keep doing it.

Hey All...back to Zach's offer of a get-together...

It would appear from the posts so far that Friday evening would work for most. Zach, if (and that's a big IF) your better half gives the green light, let us know how the rest of us can help out. Would it be easier for you to charge by the head, or maybe more cost effective for you if it was BYOB&B (bring your own beef & bottle). This could be fun.

Hi all,

I can finally reveal that this Aussie will be making his first trip to Oshkosh this year. I'll be there from Monday through to Friday (possibly Saturday as well) before continuing my travels throughout America.

Needless to say I'm really looking forward to the trip, and it'd be great to catch up with a bunch of the people from on here. Other places to be visited on the journey include: Chino, Museum of Flight and Flying Heritage Collection, Old Rhinebeck, NASM, Fantasy of Flight, USAFM and Thunder over Michigan.

Cheers,
Matt

Hey Matt,

I'd like to extend an early welcome to the states.

If you get the time, come to Creve Coeur, Mo and hang out with all us Classic Airplane afficiondos.

You can see some of our planes at my website, www.fairchild24.com/tailwheels.htm.

Ask Graham from Classic Wings, he's been here :D

Matt - you need to get one of those personalized WIX shirts... so all of us at OSH will know who you are, and can identify ourselves to you when we see you

The wife has given her approval of having a barbeque at the house on Friday night of AirVenture. We can provide most of the food and if there is a concensus on drink, we can provide that as well. Otherwise byob. All WIXers that will be at AirVenture on Friday are invited to attend. Festivities will probably start around 5:30pm since I have to work until 5. We can grill chicken, steaks, or whatever else you all have in mind.

So, if anyone interested just let me know. At some point I'll want to get a rough headcount so we know how much food to prepare. Thanks!

Zack

Zack, count me in. Details can come later, but feel free to ask for help.

And be sure to thank your spouse for the rest of us!

as long as people stay around until later... some of us have 'work' to do until the field closes at 8...

If it would be better to start around 8, that's fine by me. 5:30 would be the absolute earliest I can be back to the house anyway. I'm also inviting all my Timeless Voices volunteers, so there will be people there until 10 or so. Heck, even if you just want to drop in and have a beer that's fine by me. Me casa es su casa...

For that matter, if anyone wants to go out for dinner any other night of the week, I'll probably be available, and I can provide the transportation.

Zack

Count me in and my father at the least. 2 for a headcount for sure.

Make sure you post a mapquest or address here so that we can get there.

It would be great to finally meet some of the WIX people that I enjoy getting information from!

Cheers!
