I was having lunch with an unnamed current warbird pilot a couple months ago who said the Bearcat is easily one of his favorites. I don't think I'll ever forget him saying that he is able to take off from a dead stop, and by the time he crosses the end of the runway, be at 4000 feet.

Having a Fort escorted by two cold war Russian trainers kind of got under my skin. There were around 20 Mustangs around this year.

I don't recall who was being interviewed but I was watching a video once with a pilot who said he and another were arguing P-51 vs Bearcat performance. They decided to fly to prove their points. They started the takeoff roll together with the Mustang in front, and he claimed he was doing a roll over the top of the Mustang before the Mustang's wheels had left pavement.

A David Hart photo of the TBM shows a landing gear door bungied to the tire of the right gear. Aside from an attempt to deter tire-kickers, I can't seem to figure out why this is. Just me being nosy.... super pictures by the way

That is the crew door from Brad Deckert's TBM. Brad and Jane have had several WWII TBM Vets sign it over the years. Attaching it to the tire allows them to display the signatures without damaging the door and/or hinges.

I just think that if you are honoring and teaching history, this is the wrong way to do it.

Some say thr T-6 is "Common" (read boring) but they are my favorite. Yellow, blue, white, silver, green, dayglow, Navy, Marines, Air Force, RAF, RCAF, SAAF, RNZAF etc etc, the varity of T-6 is staggering. Spinner, no spinner, round tail, diamond tail....
