Reevers moves Yale trainer to airport for rebuild

Mon Jul 31, 2017 1:15 am

A type not to common in Australia, a WW2 era Yale trainer which is owned by Reevers, has now being transferred from long term storage to their Adelaide hangar for reassembly.

The type was a predecessor of the Wirraway which achieved fame in WW2 with the RAAF and also later on with the RAN

The Yale was the ultimate development of the fixed gear series of basic trainers that began with the NA-16. The Yale and Wirraway are dervatves of the NA-16, but the Yale was actually a later design chronologically, than the Wirraway.

It is good to see the Yale coming out of storage. Hope to get there to see it some day soon.

Who would want such an airplane?

I wouldn't kick one out of the hanger for leaking oil on the floor.

Why not?

Someone who wants a (relatively) easy to fly, (relatively) economical, (relatively) easy to maintain and (relatively) rare warbird.
I've always liked them. The fixed gear looks appropriate on them.

Pretty sure Eric was being sarcastic since he is a Yale owner/operator himself...

Well, Luftwaffe for sure wanted them. I read somewhere that the (ex-French AF and Navy) NA-64´s and NA-57´s were much liked by the trainees, and that (though dwindling numbers) they were used in training squadrons until late 1944. There is one flying in German livery in Arizona IIRC.

Again, Eric's comment comes with a great side of sarcasm, as he owns/operates a very lovely Yale (though I'm an even bigger fan of his Skyraider): http://www.warbirddepot.com/aircraft_tr ... owning.asp

Bill Greenwood always warned us to watch out for ED owning :D

That captured Luftwaffe scheme looks really cool 8) . I really like it and it's authentically representative. Well done.

Me too Andy, the modern one looks fantastic! I was about to dare Reevers to paint theirs like that just for fun, but if it's anywhere near as good as that one...wow!

Here ya go! :)

Or if you want to do an RCAF version (with my own 3390 as the box art!)
http://rsmodels.cz/en/modely-letadel/pl ... na-64-yale

Just remember that the 'Yale' name only refers to the NA-64's that were in RCAF service. In French or Luftwaffe service they were simply the NA-64 or 'North' :D

I got mine from an ebay source about a week ago. A quick look through came up quite positive. For once, a full kit or conversion recognizes that the Yale wing and fuselage are not straight from a Harvard.

How many did you buy, Shane?
