Thanks to everybody for the most interesting input!

There's plenty of interest in more photos, in case anybody's on the fence about whether to post or not... 8)

I want to specifically mention that Garbs' pics from past years still rank among the very best I've ever seen, and I miss them. Not complaining, I understand as well as anyone that it's a lot of effort, and that focus, interest, and priorities change. Just wanted to say they were great and I still remember 'em and miss 'em, that's all. The night shots were killer!

What would you like to see...I would post more of them but don't want to hijack the thread with my pictures.

Can somebody explain to me the difference between these 2 award categories and why they are two different aircraft?

Judges’ Choice: P-63
CAF Dixie Wing
Peachtree City, Georgia
Bell P-63A Kingcobra, NX191H

Best P-63
John Bagly
Rexburg, Idaho
Bell P-63 Kingcobra, NL163FS
Silver Wrench
John Bagly
Rexburg, Idaho

The "Judges Choice" award can go to any aircraft type. In this case it just happened to go to the P-63. The other award is, of course, limited to the Kingcobras in attendance.

?? There were six Judge's Choice categories: P-63, B-25, O-2, CJ-6, TBM and American Pride.

I find it interesting that there was no Reserve Grand Champion Post WWII again this year.

I was happy to see Briefing Time receive recognition with an award. That one has always scored major authenticity points for me due to having the full clayton exhaust stacks rather than the postwar modification, and having a nearly fully restored interior. I've noticed most B-25s don't have the full turret structure, and Briefing Time has it. The visible areas of the rear fuselage are also much more completely restored than any of the other B-25s I've seen.

The Judges Choice categories seem to change every year. I can recall Judges Choice P-51, L-Bird, etc. categories in the past. I would guess that the categories rotate based on the number of entries of a particular type into the judging.

There were a lot of phenomenal restorations this year. All of the award-winners were well deserved. Glad to see the L-Birds getting recognized with major awards. I'm always amazed at the level of intricacy and the care that goes into the small details on some of those aircraft.

I wonder what sort of gripe the Lewis guys had? Their B-25 was the only airworthy one on the field that didn't participate in the mass B-25 flights, and the A-20 was scheduled (for some weeks) to fly in yesterday's show, but it scurried out of town early yesterday morning (the EAA Museum was nice enough to have housed the A-20 for a few months leading up to the show).

Exactly!!!

We were very bummed that the A-20 did not participate in any of the daily airshows!! We had made the trip to Osh last year to see it and were disappointed, so this year hopes were very high to see it fly.

I'm no expert, but I didn't hear anything from anyone around OSH about it having flown much prior to the show (if at all), so I suspect it didn't participate simply because it hadn't flown off its required time to establish its airworthiness and/or flown enough to satisfy the EAA's participation requirements/insurance minimums. Also, their B-25's annual ran out at the end of June and as of July 7th, they weren't planning on bringing the plane because of it. I guess they were able to get the annual finished in time, but again, probably didn't either have the post-annual time flown off fully, or (more likely) didn't meet the requirements for the EAA to participate.

Just winding down from my week at Oshkosh. Another fantastic year!

One of the highlights of my week was the presentation with the Blue Angels pilots and the Apollo Astronauts. You can watch it all here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXxLW__7LHE

I miss seeing the night shots from "The Cat"... Same guy??

Yes, that's right, spookythecat - thanks Lynn. Got him and Garbs a little mixed up I guess, but definitely remember Garbs's pix as standing well above the herd too. Not only did they make great shots, but posted bunches of 'em here too which added a great deal of flavor and class to this joint.

To heck with the Lewis stuff, I've seen it before and will see it again soon enough - what I want to see is that YL-15 fly!

No beef between Lewis camp and EAA. Very simple: A-20 was up for judging and cleaning/detailing an airplane of that size is a moumental task. Crew opted to not fly the 25 because they were busy with the A-20. No fly off time or any other manufactured reason. For those who have had an airplane judged at osh, you understand. To the rest, have an airplane judged and you will quickly find out how fast a very tiring week will go by. Glad to be home with SSII and the Corsair. Thank you to all who stopped by to visit and chat. You and all the close friends are what make that gigantic dog and pony show worthwhile! God bless you Vlado...we missed you terribly.

Thanks for the kind words, Pogo. I will be posting but I just got home today and need to sort and upload. We registered 351 warbirds this year, down about 20 from last year but still on par with 2011-2014. I never saw Spooky this year - he has kind of dropped off the WIX grid. He did get mentioned as working in Security at the banquet Saturday night, so I assume he was there. Saw some photo ops this year I have never seen before:

Above all it was a safe year. Considering the past few weeks, that is a blessing.

Finally got to see Doc and Fifi in the same zip code on Saturday.

More to come.
