Greatest Show on Turf 2017 - Geneseo, NY

It would seem that some one at the NWM would see all the chatter on here and end all the speculation and tell us some thing official. Real hard to under stand their thinking.. Web site looks like a combination of 2016 and 2017

Austin, thank you for your input. There is no doubt museum activity has escalated over the past few years. A lot of effort and manpower has gone into making NWM a museum to visit with new aircraft in the hangar and work progressing on several airframes. As well as some great displays.

One of the biggest complaints I hear from pilots and owners is the lack of communication. Often they will enquire about coming, often for free and get no response. I will not name names but a few years ago a person at the museum would actively peruse the biplanes, trainers and L-birds by calling and sending out letters inviting them early in the year to attend. These aircraft filled the field often for minimal expense. A few years back I had several friends bring in three historic aircraft from Eastern Ontario. When they left their base there was no NOTAM but upon arrival a NOTAM was in progress for a practice. They were chastised so bad they left the next morning and have not been back. This was a dream show they wanted to attend and aircraft types that enthusiasts want to see.

For my wife and I if it was any other show we would not go this year, mainly because of the expense due to the exchange rate as well as over inflated hotel charges. But Geneseo is more of a gathering of friends for us and it appears several friends who have not been there the past few years will be attending along with all our regular friends. Geneseo has always been close to my heart and I love supporting the museum and event as it is like no other. I want to show my support as I did after the split with NWM as I know this is a stepping-stone to rebuilding the show for the future. Hotel has not been cancelled as I feel Geneseo needs us this year. Time to give back to an event that has given us so much.

Good insight, Eric. I have been wondering why there has been a steady decline in the overall number of L-Birds, Trainers, Biplanes, Classics, and even General Aviation Aircraft. In particular, a steep decline in the number of Canadian aircraft. Sounds like it may just be a general lack of manpower/resources to contact all these aircraft owners.

That being said, I will be there at least two days, buying a program, t-shirt, and a few angus burgers. I will continue to support NWM, in hopes that the museum continues to grow its collection and can re-gain momentum for the airshow.

With less than two weeks to go till arrival's day the NWM has finally updated their web page and they have a few additions. As rumored, P-40 Jackie C and Corsair God Speed are under contract now as are the following B-25s, Wild Cargo, Take Off Time and Miss Hap. They have booked a civilian aerobatic act as well. P-51 Quicksilver and C-46 Tinker Belle will also be in attendance.

Weather permitting I will take a day to head down to Geneseo.

I am backing out of our trip "up North" this year. I will truly miss attending the show and seeing friends and family but I am in the middle of a construction project that I need to finish It is the monkey on my back and I need to get it behind me for my mental health!

Can't wait to see pictures! Here is to next year getting together

Just returned from the show... I still had a great time.
No B-25's showed up, and the Corsair, Flabob also didn't make it.

The star for me was the TBM... the pilot did a fantastic job of putting that thing thru its paces. I havent seen anybody manhandle an Avenger like that before!

On a side note, what happened to the MARC A-20 that used to live there?... I was shocked to see it gone.

The highlight fo me was putting my 9-year-old daughter up in the L-16 with Austin. Thanks Austin!

They put on a great show with what they had this weekend. Would really have liked a Corsair and at least one of the B-25s there. We did have very nice comfortable weather on Saturday and Sunday.

Hey Austin,
Great to say hello, if ever so briefly.
Really sorry we weren't able to bring the Tiger Moth.
Our weather service provider said that the fog would clear, just in time for the thunderstorms to start!
Not a great place to be in an open cockpit biplane. So, we came by road.

I was glad I came and had fun regardless.
Geneseo will always be a special, unique place.
