The Salis family in France to have owned and developped one of the nicest flying museum at La Ferté-Alais, starting collecting and saving planes before WWII, long time before the warbird movement started.

Looked through all the pages to this thread, and I didn't see any mention of the creator/benefactor of one of the largest "flying/flyable" warbird collections in the USA........James (Jim) Cavanaugh.

What is the true criteria or requirements to be considered "important"?

Airshow attendee?
Warbird owner?
Number of warbirds owned?
Number of warbirds piloted?
Number of warbirds restored?
Author?
Internet presence?
Popularity?
Some combination of the above?

For instance, John Marlin restored and flew his own P-51 at Chino and is building a Martin Baker MB-5 replica in Reno. Is he important?

How about Fred Sebby? He was well liked, flew at Reno and in airshows, but was he important?

Is Tom Cruz important? He's certainly famous and owns/flies a P-51.

Cliff Robertson owned (and flew?) a Spitfire.

How about Jerry Miles? He owned and flew a couple of P-51s and T-6s, some with questionable ownership I'm told.

Enquiring minds want to know! ;-)

how about Chuck Gardner...Jim Goolsby...Frank Hale...Mac MaCaulley (highest time B-17 Pilot ever)...so many people quietly flying warbirds and amassing a large amount time.

Simply owning and operating warbirds doesn't make one "important", it might, however, make one fortunate, happy, maybe even humbled a bit.
