Dixie Wing P-63 Paint Scheme

We are ready to paint the Dixie Wing P-63 and I am looking for some help to convert the 1945 paint codes/numbers into modern paint codes. Thanks!

I remember seeing that paint scheme for the 1st time in 1973 in San Marcos, Texas. Just a few years ago...

Since no one answered the question, have you tried the model builders ? They seem to have access to color charts and tables for just about any aircraft company. As for color schemes, I like just about any, but a US scheme with over painted Russian markings would be interesting to see.

"Hi Moreno,

Here are some Fed Specs. specific to your P-63 and it's finish specs. The Fed Spec. 595 is the current government standards for calling out colors. Every paint supplier will be able to cross over to these numbers. (often they initially say they can't, but after the go up far enough to the person who knows they will agree they match to these numbers. If Delta is painting it I would think it won't be a problem.) Another disclaimer: The colors of paint they used prior to Fed Spec 595 (1970's I believe) are slightly different but extremely close to the cross over numbers. http://www.fed-std-595.com/FS-595-Paint-Spec.html

As per fed spec 595: If you want semi-gloss instead of the original flat paint you change the first digit in all of the codes to a 2XXXX. (37038, Flat Black-27038, Semi Gloss Black) If you want gloss you change the first digit to a 1XXXX (37038, Flat Black-27038 Semi Gloss Black-17038, Gloss Black) Do remember that when you change from flat to semi-gloss or gloss the colors will look slightly different as light colors get darker when the go flatter and dark colors get lighter when they get flat and vice-versa.
