Question for our European members...

Sun Oct 23, 2016 4:42 am

Any of our European members know of a FW-190 D9 restoration being started recently? I don't know if it's to be a flyer, but the work I've seen is definitely to flight standards.

The Vormezeele Dora has been going for many years. It's based on a Flugwerk kit, with parts from a recovered example.

Yes indeed, this is the one that is owned by Eric de Vormezeele at Brasschaat Belgium.
•WNr.990006 - And build as a flyer with different parts from several aircraft, (White 3) as main components donor and would be painted it as WNr.210102
And instal the correct jumo engine in this FW190 Dora.
Huge and verry cool project!

I'm not sure the one that I have been seeing parts fabricated for is in Belgium. The person that is doing the parts that I have seen photos of, is in the Netherlands, the project appears to be near where he is. Unfortunately, he is not able to reveal who owns the project or it's identity, or any photos of any part of it he did not fabricate in his shop.

Hi there, i think that the guy that you mean, is Paul Stalenberg from the Netherlands.
I have also seen parts new made by him , but do not knowing for wich specific FW190 these parts are. There are relatively a few original FW190 projects in Europe, and a verry small number of FW190 Dora models, but almost think then at the FW190 A-8 and the FW190-D9 from the Berlin Gatow Museum in Germany, and both in restoration now at this time.

Yes, it's Paul's work I have been watching. I'll have to ask him if I can point to his work over on another site. Some people get a little wound up about things like that, when they don't know it's been done. I'll also get the board owner's permission too. A couple of the boards I'm on, have rather acrimonious relationships between themselves, so I'm always careful about asking first.
