A couple stupid questions. Why start up inside the hangar? I thought it was always done outside for safety reasons. Also, I don't know as I've ever seen a piston engine run with the prop apparently fully feathered..just curious why.

I agree with the indoor start being somewhat questionable, especially considering the noise (and how much you just concentrate it with those short pipes), but I don't think there's anything legally against it. There are times when you do want to run under cover and the tail was outside and the doors were open.

As for the feathering, if you note the shutdown, the prop was at least partially unfeathered and drove back to feathered, kinda like the PT-6. Don't know if this is a stock system, but it makes sense you'd want props that big to feather on loss of oil pressure and not stay full fine.

I see they are using Merlins, as per the XP-82, and not Allisons. That factoid was a surprise to me -- learned something.

It appeared to be a dry start, on prime for a while. That's common after warbird engine carbs have sat for a while and thoroughly dried out (although I have no idea which marks of Merlin they are using).
