Can anyone please confirm the airplane's location? I heard a rumor tonight that the airplane flew out of Greybull last week, however, no one seems to know for sure.

It is still in Greybull.

What flew out of Greybull last week was the C-54 "Spirit of Freedom" on a stopover from Great Falls MT to Wise, VA.

Roger that. I knew the C-54 was headed that way last week and I kind of wondered if somebody got the airplanes mixed up.

A friend of mine told me a few weeks ago that they were running up the '97 and noted that he didn't see it parked on the ramp or the North 40 as of recent, which was why I was asking.

JohnB, I do believe Clay Lacy still owns the airplane although an N number search is somewhat cloudy as to its current registration status.

No. Clay does not own the airplane anymore. It is owned by B&G Aviation. This was the settlement of the debt that was owed for the work. The airplane hasnt been run in quite a long time. I think it's doubtful it ever will again.

Thanks Kevin. I wondered what the outcome was following all the work they did eight, nine years back. This explains why the N number search doesn't offer much help.

Was told tonight that it's in the hangar now, the new one.

Basically, I have been out of the Greybull airport loop since late 2004 after H&P folded; no longer live there, so I rely on several friends/ex-coworkers as to what's going on.

(I asked confirmation from a friend who flies out of GEY as to whether or not he actually saw the run-up--reference my above post--to which he stated that he didn't actually see it, but assumed so as there was a power cart and fire extinguishers sitting next to the airplane, so I hope I wasn't spreading misinformation).

Just a guess...but they wouldn't waste hangar space in a derelict that's NEVER going to fly...or no one wants.

As far as B&G goes and the C-97 being in the hangar, they need to keep it in decent condition because they have a lot of money invested in it at this point with labor and other costs that weren't paid. They will be looking to sell it to recoup some of this money. We have been talking to them about it and other things, but at this point its just talk.

I would think the Museum of Flight in Seattle (or someone else) would like one.

I WANT ONE!! Just because when I was about 7 or 8 I got to go for a ride in one of the very last KC-97s the Utah ANG had in Salt Lake. Lufthansa is redoing that Connie - maybe they would like to go 'whole hog' and redo a Stratocrusier!?

Tom, for all we know it could have been our C-97 you rode in. It was retired from Utah ANG in 1977, one of the last KC-97s there.
