Definitely Curtiss XP-60... the area around the exhaust is the give away.

Didn't that have a single tail as well? Super Strafer, wasn't it?

Best I can tell, that picture was of the one that was converted from a conventional B-25H and had a twin tail. They crashed it during a demonstration flight by pulling the wings off. It was sort of a proof of concept for the Super Strafer, which was never built. Here's a webpage that seems to tell the story correctly:

The photos of 43 4406 have three blade props on the R2800s and a solid nose with 75mm opening.
Mark's photos is probably some different attempt to make the B-25 go faster.

Great eyes!

I think the home team is at the State Fairgrounds, not the University, which was the station of some "specialized depot" what ever that means. It does look like to me now that they are being "parted out" as need be, note that none of the airframes have engines which I think would be the first to be recycled.

Dear Mark: I am the Granddaughter of the Robert "Frank" Harper, Jr. He flew this A-26C 44-35281, "Iron Project" in at least one of his missions in WWII. He flew it on 8/12/45 on thie Chiron mission. He was the Pilot, with Young and Smith attending. If you have any other information about this plane, please let me know. Also do you know if it still exists?

I'm currently traveling but I will be happy to look into it for you. Any additional information on your grandfathers service will certainly help
