I used to volunteer at the local aviation museum with Cedric Mah, he often spoke of the carburetor icing problems as he flew over the hump.

Sadly he passed away in 2011.

Do you remember if he spoke of the problem as true carburetor venturi icing or induction-air impact icing?

Larry, we would also, on occasion, climb 300-500 higher and descend on the step in the C-130. I can't say definitively that we achieved dramatically higher speeds, but I do know it seemed as if we reached final speed much quicker than simply leveling off and accelerating. Sometimes getting those last 300 feet were painful too.
