Does anyone know if the rest of the warbird community know about this sale?

Somewhere some museum might need a nice stock 119 (or perhaps if worse comes to worse, the nose to replace the incorrect big radar nose seem on some in museums).
Again, like a C-47 or C-46...it might make a neat support plane for a warbird tour.

interesting - looking at the photos of the C-119 at Fox field and the photos the GSA has up of the C-119 at Edwards they seem to be somewhat intermixed. I agree with Malo83 - it would take a powerball winner and the commitment to bring one of these birds back to flying - I would not love to see it!! And to be honest it would be nice to get the instrument panels, yokes and seats out of the C-123 for the one here in Wendover.

What I wouldn't give to see a 1950's era C-119 out on the airshow circuit. Not to mention, you could fit a few Jeeps in the back! Of course the biggest obstacle (next to a complete restoration) would be to keep a pair of P&W R-4360's happy and running well.

Depends on which model the C-119 is, The Flight of the Phoenix C-119 has 3350s

Both are bound to be pretty stripped out - but the C-119 at Fox would be easier to work on. BUT the info says that there is an issue with the gear preventing it from being even towed.

And here I was just getting over not having won the big one a couple of weeks ago. . . LOL

I wonder if the gear problem has anything to do with the gear part stored in its cargo hold...maybe it just needs to be installed...probably needs tires too...
It's probably possible to tow the Edwards aircraft to Lancaster...been awhile since I was out there, but there wasn't much out there last time...

If the auction site can be trusted, the bid on either C-119 is only up to $1100 USD!! I'm in for the WIX Bird!

Yesterday Air Force pulled the C-119C at Edwards AFB from the Auction listing it as a Historic aircraft.

This was the first C-119 to air drop bridge sections to the soldiers trapped at the Cho son Reservoir. After several more aircraft dropped bridge sections, the soldiers were able to escape.

So, one of the three have been saved.

I also talked to the people at the fire base at Fox Field, who told me that one wing of the C-119 there has a broken wing. Someone else told me, they had heard that it fell off a jack at one time, causing damage to the wing.

Laterrrrrrr
