Hi All,

Our Mk IV Hurricane at VWoC, KZ321, flew with No. 6 Sqn RAF, in 1944-45, in Italy, Yugoslavia and Greece. I've been all over the internet for photos, and have found all the obvious ones, but does anyone have other sources for photos?

The Holy Grail for us would be a photo of KZ321 in wartime service. The Holy Grail on a gold plate with emerald trim would be one in 1946 in Palestine.

I'm putting together the history of the aeroplane. We'll be selling it in the not-too-distant-future, as our Mk XII gets closer to completion, and the photos of 6 Sqn that I have found have been very intriguing. But my forte is checklists and crosswinds, not historical research. I'd appreciate some help.

Thanks!

Dave

I strongly suggest you post your request over on the Flypast forum Dave.
There are some great specialists regarding British aircraft there.

Hi,
In reply to the photo of the Hurricane from Dave Hadfield I have a photo from the same location and shoot.

Although it is of poor quality this is a photo that appeared in a local Birmingham newspaper in 1944 of 32 squadron being the first RAF squadron to operate behind enemy lines and before landing of Allied troops. I was interested in this and have this photo as the chap sitting in the centre with the pipe is my grandfather warrant officer Kenneth Cartland. He's also (still with pipe) on the right hand side of Dave Hadfield's photo (same seven airmen).

Just to note, the aircraft that appears in both photos is from 32 squadron, not 6 squadron.

Re "KZ321", I was talking to a chap at Flying Legends a couple of years ago (sadly never got his name), who it transpired had a good knowledge and was a researcher of Hurricanes, and was also a member of the now defunct Hurricane Society.

I don't yet have your book Gordon, but had an interesting chat with him about "KZ321"!

He told me he had researched the history of this particular airframe, and passed all his findings of the history of it to Robs Lamplough (who I believe had recovered what was left of this Hurricane and initially owned the remains of it before it was passed on to TFC, who then had it restored by Hawker Restorations to flying condition).

Now, I really must get your book!

Cheers

Paul
