That was my thought also. Noticed that it looks like a B-17 with it's left gear collapsed off to the left.

Larry Kraus wrote:Great pictures,as always. Thanks Mark. Here are some pictures taken by Dave Kelly Jr. at Fox Field in Lancaster, CA. on October 30,2003 that were titled "The Last Hurrah".The title is appropriate because the tanker industry was totally destroyed the next spring for purposes that are still unclear. I was flying T62 at the time for Butler Aircraft and my c/p was Bob Webb if my memory hasn't failed me (again).

WOW now those are great pics!

The only time I ever saw a tanker was in Albuquerque a few years back. Dad was in the hospital and a wildfire was burning near the Rio Grande. We could smell smoke in his hospital room. Fast forward, Helo's and fire crews got it under control. As I was waiting for my flight home, I watched an Aero Union P-3 take off for parts unknown. From my vantage point, he appeared to use every inch of rwy21. Again very cool pics of a tanker base.

Yes Catch 22, no its a B-25 burned for the movie and buried there after the movie people left.

The original PP is the one with me in the cockpit (pilot Hal Gray), then it was painted as a M&M plane, then back to PP, the second paint job sucked, I was flying a different one by then with no artwork (pilot Stu Kunkee).
