I find it incredible to consider the relative age of the aircraft when the photos were taken, in particular the B-29s. Even though the B-47 was a bit more than a twinkle in some engineer's eye by 1945, the B-29 could still be considered very advanced when these photos were taken. And yet, there they are, bulldozed into a dump. Imagine seeing a pile of B-1s or B-2s like that.

Although the aviation enthusiast in me cringes to see these photos, they serve as an effective reminder of just what a massive effort World War II was. Suddenly not needed, vastly expensive, complicated machines were simply bulldozed into giant holes because there was too many of them to dispose of any other way.
