Can anyone share info on a incident involving the death of a Navy pilot named Charles A. Jones who was killed while flying an airplane on June 23, 1949. A member of the family would like to know more.

My advice would be to contact Craig Fuller at: http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/

Given both the date and the and the name of the pilot he should be able to locate the accident report. Craig's price for this service is very reasonable and he can provide you with an electronic or paper copy of the report in short order.

Checked through the next day's (June 24) Chicago Tribune, but no story there (although there was an interesting item about an IL ANG F-51 chasing and shooting down a runaway advertising balloon). Do you have a location?

IAW with Find-A-Grave, his crash was in Memphis, TN. He is resting in Arkansas. He was a member of the 91st Squadron out of Millington(?).
