Here is a shot of Brad Deckert's TBM stuffed into a C-17 for a recent trip to Hawaii.

Mine/Torpedo Mk 24 (nicknamed "Fido" in service) In the bomb bay of a TBM "Avenger" on board USS MANILA BAY (CVE-61), 24 February 1944. A pair of depth bombs are installed behind the "Fido". The Mk 24 was the Navy's wartime anti-submarine homing torpedo.

Being a former Avenger owner/pilot [b/n 91110] I love seeing pics of operational aircraft.

Nice spelling of GRUMAN on one of the ordnances.... the "Spelling Police" won't believe it but there it is!

Does anyone have any really good FIDO documentation? Good enough to, say, build a replica? I've only found basic dimensions so far

I'm with you on that one, I would like to find a FIDO, or Mk 13 for the War Eagles Turkey. Short of that I want to build a replica of the "Mk 24 Mine".

Anyone catch in the first two photos that the birds are "tied down" with rope on the deck?
