Just wondering if this airframe was moved out to Tucson as had been discussed previously or is it still in Dayton at the NMUSAF? I know a massive restoration job like this one is 20 to 30 years in the future if ever but one can dream.

It is listed in the inventory for AMARG. My guess it is there.

I was just at the NMUSAF last weekend.
The XC-99 is still sitting in pieces in front of the restoration hangar. Lots of little birdies flying in and out of the structures. Was not allowed to photo the plane since there is a NO picture outside the resto hangar policy since it is considered on a active Air Force base

I wonder if it will be moved inside once the hangars currently housing the presidential aircraft and the X planes have been vacated in the next few months.

I took some shots of it in 2011. No one stopped me.
I'd wager we won't see it back together for a long time...if ever.
it seems the museum is looking for new and exciting ways of scrapping aircraft.
If they can't be bothered to reassemble a rare type like the B-47 they took from Pease (or was it Plattsburg?), and seemingly being in a hurry to scrap planes at Chanute, I can't see them taking the trouble to reassemble a white elephant like the XC-99.

We are talking about new and exciting ways they want to scrap airplanes after they saved it from the scrap yard? And trying to find homes for the Chanute Museum?
