Out of curiosity what everyone here has collected in the form of original ww2 warbird data plates?

Cheers,
Nate :D

According to RAF records this Boston IIIA served with the following squadrons:88, 107 and 342. It was SOC after 41.25 flying hours

Interesting. BZ339 crashed during a forced-landing at Deepcut, Surrey November 11, 1943.

Hello Dave Smith,

Thank you so much for providing the crash location for BZ339. I looked up Deepcut, Surrey and it's just about 2 miles to the east of RAF Farnborough. The aircraft crashed on 31 October 1943 and was apparently assigned to 342 Sqd which was a Free French unit. Sounds as if there could be some history here...

Thanks again,

JDVoss

I'm pleased to help. 342 Sdn was based at RAF Hartford Bridge - later renamed Blackbushe and today a busy GA field. This is a few miles NW of Farnborough. I've just found this on the RAF Commands Forum:

<Boston IIIA BZ339 OA-R was lost on 11th november 1943 during a training flight, and a double engine failure. Sous-lieutenant Yves LAURENT (pilot) tried to make a forced-landing on a football pitch but while avoiding some players on the ground, chose another spot, and in the process the Boston hit a hard AA position, at Deepcut (Deep Cut ?). He was killed in the process, as was the observer Robert COLCANAP (aka Bob Coco). The wireless operator air gunner LUINEAUD and air gunner DUFAUT-HITOU escaped with their lives.>

FWIW, I've attached a profile of a typical 342 Sqn (Free French )marked Boston Mk.IIIA based at RAF Hartford Bridge. BZ339 no doubt carried the same paint scheme and was marked OA-R.

Possibly the Supermarine one may be Walrus or Seagull?
