THUNDER OVER MICHIGAN 2015

The German Air Force (GAF) C-160D Transall that is attending the 2015 Thunder Over Michigan Air Show for static display both days, is coming from Air Transport Wing (ATW) 63, Hohn Airbase, in northern Germany.

The Lancaster with a B-29, 2 B-17s and the PB4Y makes my trip up worth it there. Still fingers crossed for maybe another B-17 or 2 and a B-24 (but the two are nowhere near town according to their schedules). Wish Doc was up and running to make it to this show also.

Aren't there some US Based Transall C-160s in the Southwest? I saw a lot of German and Dutch aircraft flying around in Tucson

I would add the A-26 to the ones you mentioned as good reasons to make my trip from FL worthwhile also. Doc would have been nice, but alas it looks like 2016 will be her air show debut year.

Unfortunately no chance of a B-24. The Collings tour made a swing through Michigan a couple weeks ago, but will be on the east coast by the time of Thunder..and I understand Diamond Lil is offline for some time undergoing some major maintenance.

yes that is an A-26 I haven't seen yet. Like to see the PV2 Harpoon and the FW190 too.

Main thing actually I want to see is that ME-262

The PV-2 and Fw-190 are great to see too. The Me-262 is nice, but not among my favorite vintage jets. Nice to see it come up for the show but not a must see for me - saw this one fly at Hamilton in 2013 and last year I saw the Collings Foundation one fly at Houston.

Should be a great show overall.

Is this 262 pretty much "stock", except the engine of course ?

Well, it's a new-build reproduction, so I'm not sure how you'd define "stock." I've always heard the Stormbird Project aircraft were faithful reproductions (at least structurally) built using a combination of original blueprints and "reverse engineering" the Me-262B now on display at the Naval Aviation Museum. Others here probably have more detailed information than me about how authentic they are.

I'm really getting jazzed about the show..I haven made it the last couple of years. I'm really hoping to see the Privateer fly. I last saw her operating out of Jeffco Airport near Denver in the early 80s when she was H&P Tanker #121.

Of the 7,377 Lancaster's produced in Britain and Canada, only 17 airframes remain worldwide, and of this number, only 2 are in flying condition. The engines powering this iconic WW II Bomber, are Rolls-Royce Packard Merlin's - built in Detroit.

I have not seen the ME-262 yet. I know it is using Lear 23 engines on it so it isn't the real thing but it would be cool to see fly. It was supposed to come in 2010 but canceled, and it was supposed to come in 2013 with the FW190 but both canceled then too I think due to their owners/previous owners having some financial difficulties - so I am really hoping to finally see it fly.
