More to come, but the Hun from yesterday. Good lord what a beautiful aircraft.

The 1949 Fairchild XNQ prototype was there until Thursday. Parked in with the T-34's. Pound for Pound, the L-Birds were the best class of aircraft that I saw. Only a few in attendance, an L-2, L-3B, L-4, L-5, L-6, L-18, and an L-21 parked together. Each of them looked factory new.
The Lt. Dan Band put on a good show last night. A friend pointed out that it was almost like a Vietnam era USO show. Looking out beyond the crowd were a B-52, F-4, F-100. A-4, C-12, and "That's All Brother" still in it's AC-47 paint scheme, OV-1D and A-1 Skyraider.

I had no idea the B-52 bomber was a homebuilt aircraft. Someone has a big shed!!

It's great to see the Mosquito and Avspecs being given the top WWII Warbird award. A pity EAA spelled Jerry Yagen's name wrong though on that page.

*Yagen, or at least that is how it is always in business contact and published form.

As I wrote on Gavin Conroy's FB page, the fact that the Mosquito won the "Grand Champion" award, with the rest of the competition involved, speaks great volumes to the incomparable challenges faced in its restoration and just how tremendous of an accomplishment it was to have a Mosquito restored back to life as the only flying example and something that had never been done before. A true pioneering effort by all involved.

A big congratulations to Avspecs, Aircorps Aviation, Pacific Fighters and Airpower Unlimited who all won Golden Wrench Awards, the highest awards given at Oshkosh for restoration companies, for their respective restorations - the MAM Mosquito, P-51D Sierra Sue II, P-51B Berlin Express, and the Olympic Flight Museum FG-1D Corsair.


I wonder which warbirds we'll be talking about being in 'competition' at Oshkosh next year? Jim Slattery's SBD-4 and/or P-38F? Maybe the P-47 "Dottie Mae"? It sounds like the Reilly XP-82 is supposed to be nearing completion just ahead of Oshkosh next year.

An attempt to clarify the "glaring omissions" follows:

Guess I should have added "but not limited to"

Fifi and Aluminum overcast were at Appleton selling rides most of the week so I didn't mention them. Yankee Lady split her time between Scott's Warbird Alley and Boeing Plaza (the area formerly known as Aeroshell Square, Conoco Plaza, etc.). "Vera" ( the Lanc) stayed on Boeing Plaza all week.

Never saw the third Wildcat down at Warbirds. David Frasca and Michael Gillian were the only two that registered. David said that Rudy is doing OK but didn't make the show this year. First time since it started. Sad about the passing of an era but happy that the torch has been properly passed. Best wishes to Rudy, who was always great to chat with.

We recorded 10 C-45/Beech 18's and 7 C-47/DC-3's. Several of each were in Vintage and may or may not have checked in with us. In addition to the PV-2 there was a Howard 250 and a Howard 500.

The T-6 count did not include the 9 Replica Zero/Kate/Val's we also registered; most from the Tora group.

Didn't mean to slight any favorites. Cheers to all for a very safe week!

Was it a third Wildcat, or a third Avenger? I've seen pics of the Bush Avenger on the grounds, but did not actually see it in person. I left Saturday morning, so that may be why I missed it.

There was a third Avenger as well on Saturday.

The Shelton Wildcat didn't join in with the rest of the Warbirds, it spent it's time between displays over on the other side of the airfield.

That's Lanny Parcell's T-6F based in Justin, Texas. Lanny owns and operates Cowtown Aerocrafters. He's a great guy and an expert craftsman. His T-6 is absolutely stunning. Although you need to wear sunglasses when you're flying off his wing, two's blind regardless of what side he's on!

Gannet XT752...on a taxiway in Wisconsin...just not KOSH.

The big warbird turnout helped temper the fact that the planets just would not align for the Gannet to display. I can't imagine she wouldn't be back on the OSH docket for 2016.
