Lemme say this about that.

No one can *force* you to feel something or make a decision... that's entirely on you. You have to decide whether the benefit your presence and contribution brings to hundreds (thousands?) of ordinary regular schlubs on this site like myself outweighs the irritation of some d|ckbag who feels it's more important to spread crap than make positive contributions.

Don't let the jackholes win. Block'em, ignore'em, put'em on blast, whatever, but don't let someone else's ridiculousness drive you away from something you enjoy. Believe me, I know whereof I speak on that one. :)

Cheers,

Lynn

Mark, please reconsider leaving WIX. I have always found your post interesting and informative. Your departure would make this site a lesser venue. I don't always like what people post, but I just tend to not read the negative posts. I don't comment on posts unless I have an amswer, something to add, or some good humor.stick around d Mark, for those of us who actually like to have a decent exchange of info and ideas.

Mark, I respectfully take a contrarian view to this opinion:

But I know the difference between pissing and moaning towards each other about nonsense regarding warbirds and I know tasteless public slander towards people who aren't here to defend themselves.

No-one aggrieved is prevented from coming here to defend themselves.
This is not a sandbox we are playing in. One man's "slander" is another man's heartfelt belief. Tolerance is what makes difficult discussions possible and often worthwhile.

Intolerance is what leads people to use all those aircraft that are part of your great collection.

Mark,
You post lots of good stuff, but I completely get where you're coming from. No forum is perfect, especially not this one. But you gotta take the good with the bad and if it's no longer an acceptable balance for you, then that's only a choice the individual can make for themselves. I couldn't handle that lopsided balance myself on a few forums and did what you did, and I was much happier, having unburdened myself from them.
I liked looking at the neat stuff you'd dig up, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
All that said, I'm sure if you ever decide to come back and post neat photos again, you'll be strongly welcomed.

Actually, that has happened a couple of time that I know of here, but I agree it's not nearly as common here as it is on other forums.

Mark,

The posts you author are some of the best, most interesting content on WIX and a great source of education for me (and countless others I'm sure).
I'm one of the many that very rarely post/comment, and shame on me for not voicing my appreciation sooner. As for your frustration with this site, like the others I understand your position but hope you'll reconsider for the rest of us that are appreciative and for those out there that have yet to discover the content you have so generously provided.

Thank you for your time and the effort to educate, entertain, record for posterity this important part of our history.

Regards,

Scott.

Just an observation that may not be appropriate--to be honest, I hate the egos and politics that this site has become, while chasing off so many people--but it is what popped into my head when I read Mark's post. If someone were really offended to the point of leaving, they can just not come to WIX. They can de-activate their account.

But standing on a stump, shaking your fist, telling the world that you're leaving because you're offended screams to me just exactly what has happened in this thread: looking for enough attention from others to talk you out of it.

I like the photos that Mark posts. They're all entertaining and fun to talk about. But how many times does one quit, come back, threaten to quit again? If you don't want to be here Mark....just go. It's as simple as that.

I disagree. The man just drops off the face of the earth, then others start wondering if the man died or something.
If Mark's gonna split, I'm sure there are people who'd want to know he's leaving and not left wondering.
I have zero problem with Mark's call and why he posted his reasons.
If someone who provided a great deal of content has a problem with the forum and wants to leave, I think its their right to say why they're going. Who knows, maybe it'd be an issue nobody had thought of before.
Can't fix what's broken if you never know it's broken at all.

Mark--

I will never be able to thank you enough for the photos you found and posted regarding Pathfinder Pilot Dave Hamilton's C-47 down in Devonshire....you made one 94 yr old vet and one historian very happy.

Stay in touch...

I been involved with WIX for many years and for me the RetroAviation Maintenance Hangar is my cup of tea. I have been part of war bird restoration for a long time and many of us who have done this for awhile find the WIX Hangar full of way too much drama. Kind of like and old Soap Opera.

I have met many serious war bird folks through WIX and for that I will always be grateful. It is Warbird INFORMATION Exchange.

I will miss the pictures....

Tim, I am for tolerance, but most of the members here are of Mark's opinion:

I am aware of your "heartfelt belief" and saw where you took them to court and after that failed you have submitted an IRS complaint.

Defending yourself on this site would certainly not be tolerated for long, just resulting in a ban.

It would be a shame for that topic thread to be deleted and lost (which has been threatened by Scott) with so much information posted by so many with no ax to grind.

This is just not the place to grind your ax at all.

If you are tuning out at WIX, why not leave the photobucket up? It will just turn all these great postings into painful blanks. A huge photo loss to the community, not unlike Gary Austin's tragically lost photos. But this just seems like an adult version of "I'm taking my ball and going home". I think it was a Mark photo posting, but my favorite off the top of my head was that one where we see the weird underside of the nosed-over P-43 for the first time ever! Good for modelers. Mark are you leaving because of a tiff at "at it again"? Doc Bob is a pussycat, man! Take another night to sleep on it.

If for no other reason, this is why you need to keep on going. For every one story like this there must be a hundred others that have had the same result that you just haven't heard about.

To heck with those pain in the ass posters. They will get what they deserve eventually. I have done battle with those idiots myself on many other forums as well as WIX and its pretty much true that no good deed goes unpunished.

We still have to keep doing it for those that count; the vets and their kids and grand kids who want to learn and us warbird geeks/nerds that have an undying thirst for more information. Your posts have been chock full and have contributed to more than you will ever know.

One of the fundamental problems this site (and all other forum sites suffer from) is for people to completely read and digest what it is their commenting about. Trust me I did my homework on the thread that has caused me to hang it up. Went back an reviewed all 70 + pages and I thought plenty on it before realizing what I know now. I made an effort in my own way to just let it go, but as a business owner I have zero toleration for cowards who use this type of avenue to grind axes. Seen it far too often and it destroys people, businesses and families. You want to go after someone act like a man and go see them face to face instead of hiding behind a keyboard.

Great example in the quote above as to someone who didn't bother to read and comprehend the whole point of why I posted this thread to begin with. "My only real reason for posting this at all is to state I'll be shutting down my photobucket accounts starting tomorrow sometime. Please save what you like."

I could have just left and said nothing, closed down my photobucket account and flipped the whole place off. I chose not to. And FWIW my ego needs no attention from others to talk me in or out of anything. I can make up my own mind just fine. I also felt I earned a couple shots across the bow before departing, not to take a jab at WIX, but to state a few points regarding what I stated at the top of this post.

Speedy you seem like a good dude, but please re-read my original post and If you think I'm looking for accolades, "atta-boys" and members begging me to stick around your a dreamer. I'm humbled, grateful and honored to be spoken kindly of just like anyone would be by those who care. I'd be lying if I wasn't checking to see what people think and I'm sad to leave the good folks behind. To all of you who were kind enough to send me a PM I thank you very much.

My Photobucket account is not free. I pay to post photos here and elsewhere, but I'll be happy to work something out if there's an interest.

Hi Mark,
I did what you're contemplating doing and deleted my photobucket account because I got upset. I regret it now and am contemplating rebuilding that thread as I have all of the F86 photos still.
I know the thread your talking about that got you all riled up and to be honest, it was fine until you jumped in on a high horse. Contrary to what you think, that thread is not running off WIX members in droves.
If you feel you must go, well go. I hope the best for you, but I won't buy into begging you to stay.
David
